The Fischer Sponsor Me contest is a wrap! WIth many quality edits to choose from Fischer has chosen the winners. Coming in first place and taking home an am-level sponsorship is Matt Heffernan. The Second place winner and now proud owner of Fischer Villain skis is Sam Shaheen, while third place went to Willis Engelhart who won a Fischer Schwag package.
1st Place Matt Heffernan
The winner Matt Heffernan, nicknamed “Heff” is a young skier originally from the mid west. Heff grew up skiing right outside of Cleveland, Ohio and now lives in Utah. Going to school at the University of Utah and living near the mountains, Heff is focused on honing his skills as an all around slayer. We recently caught up with the winner and asked him a few questions.
FS: What was your first reaction when you found out you had won?
MH: I don’t even know. When i heard from them I had so much adrenaline going through me. I guess I was just really excited.
What made you want to enter?
I’ve always liked doing web edits and when I saw the Fischer contest up on Freeskier I thought it was a great opportunity. So I entered and now I’m super stoked I did.
Where is your favorite spot to ride?
Definitely the top of Milli Peak at Brighton. Â You can look North and see all the people shredding Brighton, and then you can look south and see all types of dope zones in the backcountry.
What’s on your iPod at the moment?
I have so many different genres on my ipod. I guess I listen to everything from Floyd and Van Morrison, to Snoop, Mac Dre, Gang Starr, Nas, Wu-Tang, to Sizzla, Capleton, Marley and the list goes on!
What are you doing when you aren’t skiing?
Skateboarding, cliff jumping, climbing or anything else that gets my adrenaline going.
Whats your biggest career highlight besides winning the Fischer contest?
[Laughs] Definitely the first comp I ever won. I was 13 and couldn’t have been any more stoked. Also, anytime you hike to the top of a mountain it’s an amazing felling, nothing in the world is more rewarding than working for those turns.
What are your plans for the 10/11 season?
Film Film Film. I want to make a really solid segment with D.O.S media with a good mix of backcountry and urban. Â I would also like to to compete in a handful of comps this year and get a few top 10s. Maybe a couple podiums.
