FREESKIER’s X Games Aspen 2025 Event Descriptions

Knuckle Huck

Knuckle Huck is one of the more recent editions to X Games, prioritizing style and originality in the judging. Utilizing the knuckle, or rollover, of the Big Air jump, riders attempt to butter, hand-drag and flip their way into a win. We’ve already seen some of our favorite riders get incredibly creative in seasons past, so we can’t wait to see what they break out in Aspen this year. Eight skiers will get to session the knuckle over the course of 20 minutes, getting in as many runs as time permits. Scores will be given based on overall impression.

Knuckle Huck is judged on execution and difficulty of maneuvers, variety, progression of attempt, originality and style.

Big Air

The Big Air event is one of the highlights of X Games year after year. Riders compete on a 75-foot jump with eight men and eight women attempting to nail the best trick. After three runs with only the best score counting, four riders from each field move onto the finals. There, each athlete gets two runs and the single highest score wins.

Skiers are judged on aggressive execution of maneuvers, degree of difficulty and variety of tricks, originality and style.

Slopestyle

Always a crowd favorite, Slopestyle is a sprawling competition that asks freestyle skiers to blend all of their skills and prove themselves on both massive jumps and rail features. The course in Aspen this year is electric, spanning over 1,700 feet long with six unique features. The top half of the course consists of three rail-based features, and the bottom half includes three large jumps. 10 athletes will lay down two runs each, with the best run being counted. The five best riders move on to finals, where they get two more runs to put down their finest tricks.

Slopestyle skiers are judged on progression, execution, difficulty, variety and amplitude.

Street Style

The latest competition to enter the X Games, Street Style has been welcomed with open arms. The event resembles last year’s Game of SLVSH competition but with a more robust course and different judging criteria. Features and overall layout are heavily influenced by urban skiing, drawing in many riders who aren’t seen as traditional competition skiers. Two heats of four athletes each compete in a 10-minute jam session getting in as many runs as time allows for. The top two riders from each heat move on, combining into one group of four riders who will then compete in another 10-minute jam session. The highest overall impression score takes the win.

Riders competing in Street Style are judged on overall impression, which takes in to account progression, execution, difficulty, variety and originality.

SuperPipe

With fierce competition, SuperPipe has made a grand resurgence in recent years. The SuperPipe is about 567 feet long and 66 feet wide. The walls reach a height of 22 feet, sending riders launching over 35 feet above the ground as they strive to link tricks together and put together the perfect run. The women’s and men’s fields each contain eight riders who get two runs to rack up the highest score, with the top four scores moving on to finals. There, points reset to zero and the remaining skiers get two runs, with the best single score taking the gold.

Skiers in SuperPipe are judged on progression, execution, difficulty, variety and amplitude.
