Salt Lake City-based ski company, DPS, first debuted its permanent waxless glide treatment, Phantom, last year. Now in its second evolution, Phantom 2.0 is swiftly gaining traction all over the ski industry. While the patent-pending formula permanently eliminates the need to wax your skis and offers a consistently fast on-snow gliding performance, it’s the treatment’s environmental benefits that caught the attention of Aspen Skiing Company (ASC).
No stranger to championing environmental sustainability, Aspen Skiing Company saw a unique opportunity to partner with DPS Phantom to bring the treatment to the masses on ASC’s four mountains.
“Phantom helps us do what we do best, which is provide a better on-mountain experience with less environmental harm,” said Auden Schendler, vice president of sustainability at Aspen Skiing Company, in a recent press release. “We’ll keep wax particles out of the watershed and we’ll ski or ride on a consistently fast base. We love it.”
After Aspen officials tested out the treatment first-hand last winter and spring, every demo ski at Four Mountain Sports—ASC’s ski shop located at the base of Aspen Mountain—will be treated with Phantom. Guests can also purchase the treatment at any of the Four Mountain Sports locations in town.
“Gaining the endorsement of Aspen Skiing Company, which is the de facto industry pacesetter in terms of sustainable and progressive environmental ski area business practices, is an important step forward towards our goal of helping all skiers and snowboarders realize the many benefits of Phantom,” said Stephan Drake, founder and CEO of DPS Skis, in that same press release.
