Crested Butte is set to open for the 2013/14 ski season on Wednesday, November 27, 2013, and it’s going to be a party. The resort will provide free skiing for everyone, the lifts will start spinning with a costumed celebration of first chair, and a free showing of Greg Stump’s legendary Blizzard of Aahhh’s will take place on Tuesday evening. The theme of opening day will be “The Blizzard of Oz,” and guests are encouraged to adorn their best Wizard of Oz costumes in celebration.

Crested Butte Mountain Resort opens for the 2013-2014 season on November 27, 2013. As tradition goes, the resort will do so in style, with free skiing and riding for all and a costumed celebration to kick off the first chair, as the lift starts turning. In addition, there will be a free showing of Greg Stump’s ski movie, Blizzard of Aahhh’s, on Tuesday evening.
For the third year in a row, CBMR is hosting Ski Free on Opening Day – No strings attached. Free tickets will be given to all who come to ride on November 27. Free lift tickets must be picked up at the Main Ticket Office in the Adventure Center, prior to going to the lift.
“With Ski Free being such a tradition here in Crested Butte and the excitement that it brings to the mountain on opening day, we wanted to offer the promotion again this year,” says Scott Clarkson, vice president of marketing and sales for the resort. “It is a great opportunity for guests and community members to get a few runs in early season, at no charge, making it an awesome day for all!”
With the theme being “Blizzard of Oz”, guests and staff members are encouraged to dress in their favorite Wizard of Oz attire. Complete with a yellow brick road leading to the Red Lady Express lift, costumed characters and a champagne toast, the resort is gearing up for a festive celebration to begin their 53rd season of operations. The lifts will be open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily for the season, with some upper mountain lifts closing at 3:00 or 3:30 pm.
To add to the excitement of opening day, the events team at the resort has planned a showing of Blizzard of Aahhh’s at the Lodge at Mountaineer Square on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at 7:30 p.m. Noted as one of the best ski movies of all times, it is sure to get the crowd excited for the 2013-2014 season.
