While April brought a close to GoPro’s Line of the Winter monthly awards, it did not sleep on the elevated talent this competition brought to the POV scene. Late season snowpack meant that these athletes were hunting lines all over the world that hadn’t been skiable all year, which meant absolutely nail-biting sends that left you with your jaw on the floor. April, being the final month of competition, also meant that we were just days away from knowing who was going to win the overall Line of the Winter. There were final winners selected for men’s and women’s skiing, with each winner winning a huge cash prize and bragging rights. Stay tuned over the next few days for our coverage on who took home the overall crown.
Craig Murray took us on a journey to Alaska with this picture-perfect spine. Outfitted on the Atomic Maverick 115 CTI, he attacked this line with vigor. Just as we thought this run couldn’t get any more diabolical, Murray hucked a floaty three over a massive cliff and stomped it, but the Atomic athlete wasn’t done. He made two turns into a mandatory air which was rowdy—you could see his skis flailing through the air in a no-fall zone. The line didn’t end there, with Murray pulling it all back in check just before he floated a huge backflip. Simply put, this might have been one of our favorite lines of the season!
Alaska was firing during April, and Manon Loschi took advantage as well. Loschi charted a beautiful path down a wide-open spine. The K2 athlete ski surfed and slid across the wide-open face, entering the white room numerous times as she cocked and snapped her planks pointed down the fall line. This line earned her $5K and a chance at winning the overall Line of the Winter competition.
With $20,000 USD on the line, all the amazing winners from the past few months were eagerly waiting on the edge of their seats to see who was going to win. This year has been insane with incredible lines from around the globe, which leaves one question: Who deserves the grand prize?
