Colorado Powder Forecast: Take Off Monday!

Colorado Powder Forecast: Take Off Monday!

By Joel Gratz

Colorado Powder Forecast for week of Dec. 16

    HIGHLIGHTS

  • San Juan snow on Thurs, mostly dry Fri
  • Light-to-moderate snow Sat & Sun
  • Heavy snow Sun night & Monday!

I hope you found the powder yesterday (Wednesday) and today, as most locations around the state had 5-10" of the freshies over the last 24 hours. While the southern San Juans (Durango Resort, Wolf Creek) get another round of snow today, the big story will be the Pineapple Express feeding snow to Colorado all weekend and into Monday.

The Pineapple Express is a nickname for a feed of moisture that originates around the Hawaiian Island and flows across the Pacific into the western U.S. When this happens, the moisture needed to create snow is nearly limitless (a good thing!), but temperatures are also rather warm since the air originates near the tropics.

The result of the Pineapple Express will be decent snows all weekend, with a round of heavier snow on Sunday night and Monday that should make Monday the perfect way to end the "weekend". The title says it all: Take Off Monday! Find detailed snow forecasts for each ski area at ColoradoPowderForecast.com. -JOEL GRATZ
