It’s no secret that Interstate 70, the only route to get into the Rocky Mountains from Denver, is an absolute nightmare. Every year, the traffic gets worse. In an effort to alleviate some of the congestion heading up to the Front Range resorts on the weekends, Colorado’s Department of Tourism (CDOT) is expanding its regional bussing system, Bustang, to transport skiers to and from the Denver Metro Area for their ski day.

Starting in December of 2019, the new bus service, aptly named “Snowstang,” will take passengers from Denver’s centrally-located Union Station to Arapahoe Basin and Loveland ski areas. For just $25 round-trip, frustrated Front Rangers can sit back and relax on their way up and down from the mountains.

Arapahoe Basin and Loveland are the only two resorts on the Snowstang’s route as of right now, but promising talks with Copper Mountain may lead to a third resort stop.

The bussing system will operate on 40 dates from December, 2019, to April, 2020, including weekends, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend and President’s Day.

While we’re still a bit skeptical about how big of a difference this new bussing system will help with I-70 weekend traffic, it’s an opportunity for you to forgo the driver’s seat and to enjoy a few brews, the stellar views and make some new friends whilst the traffic crawls along.
