Thursday September 4th was your lucky day if you are a student at the University of Colorado. The Ski and Snowboard club at CU (AKA Boulder Freeride) threw the annual Welcome Freeriders Party and invited everybody who’s anybody in the frontrange. There were tents, pros and more free-product than you can shake a fist at. Seriously, you couldn’t walk past without getting hit in the face with a free movie or T-shirt.
The masses bought passes, watched a ridiculous snowskate comp and picked their way through samples of next year’s product. Boulder Freeride and the reps alike were hard at work all day as thousands partook in the festivities.
And what rewards an exhausted rep better than a sick afterparty? The answer is nothing… absolutely nothing. So at about 9 pm all the work was finished, and it was time to rage. The West End Tavern in downtown Boulder hooked it up with some drink specials, and Boulder Freeride took care of some free drinks and food.
The real highlight of the night was not the food or the mix of important people, but DJ Harvitronix. Only a couple weeks after breaking his back (hockey, obviously, he is Canadian) our very own Matt Harvey threw down the beats to a very receptive crowd. There was some drinking and schmoozing and a healthy amount of dancing.
By the end of the night the Red Bull supply began to dwindle, and we all know that’s all that keeps people in this industry alive, and when Harvitronix ended his set there was nothing left to live for. All in all it was a sick day and a rad night.
