Opening day of Breckenridge went off under blue skies and the patrons had plenty of stoke to keep the mood high all day long.
The reason for the stoke even after more than a few resorts had already opened? A legit three jump line in Park Lane. People were training them all day long throwing down for what was likely the first day back on jumps for most.
Adding to the stoke was free french toast for the first 1,000 people off the gondola. “It’s thick like Texas Toast!” said new Armada rider Dania Assaly. “Best thing I’ve ever eaten.”
Dania and fellow Armada athlete, Mike Hornbeck, were spinning laps and hiking the jumps all day long along with the likes of Ahmet Dadali, Bobby Brown, Grant Savidge, Banks Gilberti and Angeli VanLaanen. No doubles went down, but it was good to see everyone getting their jump legs back under them.
The new base lodge of Peak 8 made for the perfect Apres spot. The TBar had jalepeno popper eating contests, DJs and $2.00 beers to top off the day. It even enticed some people before noon who were not die-hard enough to brave opening day lift lines and wait times for jumps.
Salt Creek hosted a late-night “Opening Day” party and kids came out in droves. For the perfect opening day mountain town experience, no one does it better than Breck.
