Press Release, Salt Lake City, Utah:
Black Diamond Equipment, a global innovator in climbing, skiing, technical mountain sports equipment and clothing, is hosting its 20th annual fundraising party for the Utah Avalanche Center (UAC) on Thursday, September 12, 2013, from 6-10 p.m. in the parking lot of Black Diamond Equipment headquarters, 2084 East 3900 South, Salt Lake City, Utah.
“We are extremely grateful to have a partner like BD who shares our vision and is committed to raising the standards of snow safety in the backcountry,” says Bruce Tremper, Director of the UAC. “Black Diamond’s annual fundraiser is one of the most critical sources of funding for the UAC. Nearly 70% of our funding comes from donations, fundraising events and grants. Last year’s event raised more than $65,000 and involved over 1100 members of the Wasatch backcountry skiing community.”
The UAC issues daily avalanche and mountain weather forecasts that help backcountry enthusiasts make informed decisions in situations of consequence. They also teach a number of free avalanche awareness courses, house photo and video archives, offer educational modules, accident reports, snow profiles and more.
“Supporting the UAC for the past 20 years not only marks a milestone in terms of fundraising but also strikes to the heart of what Black Diamond is all about,” explains Jonathan Thesenga, Global Sports Marketing Manager for Black Diamond Equipment. “We are grateful in sharing a rich heritage with the UAC and greater Wasatch community of backcountry skiers and riders. This fundraiser serves as the unofficial precursor to the Wasatch ski season, and brings together shredders of all ages and abilities to celebrate the Greatest Snow on Earth.”
New at the fundraising event this year, the 1st annual UAC’s Mount Superior Awardwill be presented to a company or person based in Utah’s Wasatch Mountains who has shown excellence in the field of snow safety and/or a superior commitment to avalanche awareness. This award has been developed in order to annually highlight the significant and crucial work done by individuals and/or companies in Utah to keep backcountry skiers and riders informed and safe while enjoying some of the best powder on earth.
“The Mount Superior Award will allow us to acknowledge central figures in our community who are exemplary in terms of how much they give to the winter sports that we love to do in the backcountry,” comments Tremper.
Along with support from the Uinta Brewing Company, the annual pre-season fundraiser bash includes food from Rico Mexican Market, beer and wine, and the live tunes of Herban Empire. There will also be a silent auction overflowing with gear, as well as grand giveaways for those who purchase advance tickets.
The event is outdoors and will be held rain, snow or shine. You must be 21 to attend or accompanied by an adult. No dogs will be permitted. Tickets are $39 in advance, before Tuesday, September 10 and $45 after that and at the door. For more information, call 801-365-5522 or go to UtahAvalancheCenter.org.
