Battle in the Bowls is set to return to Aspen on January 21, 2013. Teams of two will race to ski/ride the various bowls of the Aspen Highlands, working together in order to finish first and only using Flaik GPS devices to guide them as they navigate through the changing terrain and towards the finish line.
Chris Davenport and Aspen/Snowmass teamed up to design a challenging course that will test athletes physically and mentally. “Battle in the Bowls is a favorite for explorers, hard charging athletes and weekend warriors that love Aspen Highlands and its amazing terrain,” said Vice President of Sales and Events of Aspen Skiing Company John Rigney in a press release.
A recreational division will also be included in the race, but will still feature similar competitive elements. Racers will have no concrete details of the course until race day, except for knowing that Highland Bowl will be a mandatory part and that it’s designed to be finished in less than 4.5 hours.
Athletes are free to design any route they desire as long as the designated runs listed are covered and once completed, the times of the team members will be averaged together to come up with the final time and declare a winner.
