The qualifying rounds of the 2011 Aspen Snowmass Open kicked off today under a beautiful Colorado-blue sky. Four full heats of competitors were on hand to give their all on the famed X Games course, with high hopes of advancing to the semi-final round.
The buzz around the hill was that the jumps were perhaps the biggest they've ever been here on Buttermilk Mountain. It certainly appeared that way, as athletes were soaring sky-high all day long, throwing down an assortment of technical trickery.
An über talented field is present, full of athletes from all corners of the globe. Combine the caliber of the riders with an "all time" course (plus a promising forecast on our hands), and it seems we're in for a stellar weekend here at the Aspen Snowmass Open. Stay tuned for daily updates including event recaps, photos, videos and athlete interviews. Slopestyle semis and finals go down tomorrow.
