The feast continues. Today, June 20, 2018, Alterra Mountain Company announced that it has entered into an agreement to purchase Utah’s Solitude Mountain Resort, which gives Alterra 13 resorts under its umbrella and expands its reach into Big Cottonwood Canyon. This comes on the heels of Vail Resorts’ purchase of Crested Butte Mountain Resort, Colorado, Stevens Pass, Washington, Okemo Mountain, Vermont and Mount Sunapee, New Hampshire.

Solitude has been owned by Deer Valley Resorts since 2014, making it an obvious choice for Alterra, which had acquired the luxurious Park City ski area in August 2017.

“With its close relationship with Deer Valley Resort, Solitude Mountain Resort is a natural fit for Alterra Mountain Company, and a tremendous addition to our family of destinations,” said Alterra CEO Rusty Gregory. “We are especially excited to expand our reach within Utah and offer another ski and snowboard experience in a state known for its exceptional snow and mountain culture.”

Situated a quick 34 miles from Salt Lake City, Solitude is a highly appealing and convenient choice for skiers traveling to Utah seeking deep snow, extreme terrain and little crowds.

The final transaction is expected to finalize by the end of the third quarter of 2018 and a purchase cost was not publicly disclosed. While it’s expected the ski area will be added to the new IKON Pass for the 2018-19 season, those details have yet to be released.
