The 42 North Air Assault comes to an end

Sun, sun, sun. Sun was the magic ingredient today at Hunter Mountain as the 42 Degree North Air Assault finished up today, with finals in Quarterpipe, Big Air and a Rail Jam. Skier and snowboarders shredded and sessioned all day as the sizable NY crowd cheered and the DJ spun beats all day.

Despite the big air in-run being a bit tight, the Hunter Mountain Park Staff kept things pristine and made sure all the competitors could clear the jump, as to put on a better show for the crowd. There were some big tricks thrown down, as well as some big crashes. Although the event mandated there be no inverts on the big air jump, it didn’t stop the athletes from hucking the likes of cork 900s and flatspins.

The rail jam is where the biggest action went down today, right in front of the base lodge, with the band stage presiding, funneling band after band to the audience’s joy. Looking like quite a legitimate jam, every trick imaginable was dealt. 270s, switch lips, and more switch ups than you can shake a stick at, the judges had their work cut out for them. After the 45 minutes jam session, Will Wesson was crowned the winner.

With better than average weather (for the north east), a better than average course (for the north east) and a sizable turnout, the 2008 Telemet 42 North Air Assault went off without a hitch. The reputation of being one of the more legitimate east coast events has once again been renewed by the fine folks here at Hunter.
