Only a few more days remain until the athlete registration for the 2011 Salomon Extreme Freeride Championships at Taos will sell out. Scheduled for March 3 – 5, the 2011 event is one of the showcase events for the Freeride World Tour (FWT) women, who will compete in New Mexico to earn a spot at the FWT’s legendary finals hosted in Verbier, Switzerland. In addition, the Salomon Extreme Freeride Championships at Taos is a 4* Freeride World Tour Qualifying event (FWQ), making it one of a handful of elite FWQ events in the world, and only one of two in North America this year.
“We’re proud that we’ve been named a 4* FWQ event,” says Taos’ Alejandro Blake. “But the real credit for this has to go to the athletes. Every year this event sells out and every year we see a top-notch field of competitors from around the globe. There’s no doubt that this year will be the most competitive field in the history of the event.”
The Salomon Extreme Freeride Championships at Taos is New Mexico’s largest and most prestigious ski and snowboard competition. Featuring athletes from around the world, 2011 marks the 7th installment of this venerable competition.
“I expect that this year’s event will be highly competitive” adds Chief of Race Tom Winter. “As a 4* event and FWT top-tier women’s competition, Taos will host some of the best skiers in the world.”
“If anyone is considering being a part of the event, they need to register now,” says Blake, “This event sells out every year and it’s unlikely that there will be last minute opportunities for athletes to enter in 2011. But if you’re a spectator, don’t worry, there are plenty of last minute lodging deals available so come down to Taos and join the party!”
