Thredbo, Australia — The Toyota One Hit Wonder Down Under, Australia’s most watched skiing and snowboarding big-air event, wrapped up a successful first day of its week-long competition in Thredbo yesterday.
Stand out performers of the day included Australia’s own Charlie Timmins, who stomped a personal best trick for the first time; a double cork 1080. USA’s McRae Williams and Bobby Brown were also stand-outs, nailing some of the most impressive maneuvers of the day. McCrae perfected a switch double-cork 1260 with a mute grab, and Bobby showcased one of his X Games winning tricks; a switch double misty 1260, with a high mute grab. New Zealand’s Byron Wells also charged hard during the day, achieving a personal best and stomping a switch double rodeo 900.
The sun was shining, the wind was calm, and Charles Beckinsale’s custom-built 90-foot big air jump certainly lived up to the athlete’s expectations. “We were stoked to wake up to a bluebird day with no wind, but our day got even better when we saw the massive 90 foot booter which has been custom build for the event. The next few days is going to be sickâ€, says X Games double gold medalist, Bobby Brown.
The Toyota One Hit Wonder is held from the 14th to 18th of September in Thredbo, where skiers and snowboarders go head-to-head to nail their biggest crowd pleasing ‘one-hit’ trick in front of the cameras.
