When Rossignol announced that they would be sunsetting the much beloved Black Ops 118 they struck fear in the hearts of skiers around the world. Those same skiers breathed a collective sigh of relief when they found out Rossi would be replacing it with the Sender Free 118, a pow board built with the same tail shape as the Black Ops 118, but notably a nimbler, more playful version. Our testers got to take the Sender Free 118 into the deep-deep at Vail and it did not disappoint.
“The Rossignol Sender Free 118 is a deep day delight,” our tester said. “The twin rocker profile puts you on top of the fresh snow and keeps you there. It will smear, slash and power through any type of freshies. This is the ski you break out on the deepest of days and love your decision for doing so.”
While the twin rocker profile brings a playful quality to the Sender Free 118, a Poplar PEFC™ wood core ensures grip, stability and predictability. Rossignol’s popular Air Tip technology makes it into this ski as well, reducing weight at the tip and providing maximum floatation even on the deepest days.
“Flotation is the name of the game with this ski,” another ski tester said. “This ski is perfect for a freeride skier looking to charge hard in fresh snow and butter your way down the mountain.”
The Sender Free 118 features a progressive sidecut profile that provides the grip you need with a nice release when the conditions are a bit firmer. Rossignol’s Diago Fiber, born from their race department, also makes its way into the Sender Free 118 to increase torsional rigidity and power while remaining lightweight.
For those that love the Sender Free 110 or Black Ops 118 as their daily driver, your new pow board has arrived.
