Alterra Mountain Company, distributors of the Ikon Pass, has announced plans to acquire Vermont’s Sugarbush Resort, bringing its stable of owned destinations to 15. Located in the picturesque Mad River Valley, Sugarbush is one of the premier ski resorts in all of New England, offering 4,000-plus acres (including the 2,000 acres of Slide Brook Basin) of terrain, 111 trails, 3 terrain parks and an average annual snowfall of 250 inches. Ikon passholders will receive 7-day access to Sugarbush for 2019-20, as originally constructed for the season, while Ikon Base passholders will receive 5-day access.

Having been a partner on the Ikon Pass since it was first introduced, it’s not surprising that Sugarbush is being acquired by Alterra.

“Having been a family-owned resort for nearly two decades, we were keen to find the right next owner of Sugarbush Resort. We are delighted that Sugarbush will join the Alterra Mountain Company family, knowing that Alterra Mountain Company will continue to maintain our culture, values and commitment to our community, while bringing additional capital and other resources to make Sugarbush even better in the years ahead,” said Win Smith, CEO of Summit Ventures NE, LLC., now-former owners of Sugarbush. Smith will remain as president and COO of Sugarbush, and will continue to manage daily operations and future capital investments.

The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2020, a transaction price was not detailed in the press release.
