The three stop series of The North Face Park and Pipe Open concludes this weekend in Waterville Valley, New Hampshire. With the finals slated for tomorrow, today's events included the Men's Slopestyle Qualifiers, broken into three heats of 22-23 where the best of two runs would advance the top five from each heat into tomorrow's Semi-finals.
If you remember last year's recap, weather was an issue as the event was subjected to a brutal thaw & freeze cycle that left the course bullet proof and buffetted with winds. Well, unfortunately, Mother Nature repeated herself (albeit without the cruel winds) as yesterday's beautiful spring like temps and soft snow during practice turned to overnight rain and a freeze that left the course firm this morning.
The end result? Athletes looked to have a pretty difficult time putting a run under their feet, particularly the third heat as the competitors had to deal with some gnarly bombholes in the landing. Hopefully those problems that persisted throughout the afternoon will be corrected heading into tomorrow's finals. With that, here are the results of today's contest.
