Freeman was an Argentinian native from Trevelin, and part of the Ski Club Andino di Esquel. According to Tom Winter, a manager of the Freeride World Tour (FWT), safety was of the utmost concern at the event, but danger was inherently present nonetheless.

“It’s imperative that anyone competing in any type of freeriding competition understands the risks and rides within their limits, according to the snow and terrain conditions,” says Winter. “The FWT is awaiting the full accident report and we will have a better understanding of the circumstances surrounding this tragic event once we have a chance to review that report. We extend our deepest condolences to the friends and family of Elwyn Roy Freeman as well as to the organizers of the event and to the staff of La Hoya Ski Resort.”

Freeman will be dearly missed by the skiing community, and FREESKIER additionally extends its sincerest condolences to all of those touched by the departed.
