Joss Christensen dishes 10 must-have items for Momentum summer camp ’15

This summer, Olympic slopestyle champion and full-fledged American hero is crossing the border, taking his talents to Canada for some fun in the sun at Momentum Ski Camp. Joss “The Boss” will be polishing his bag of tricks atop the Horstman Glacier at Whistler Blackcomb, alongside a collection of campers and other pros. For those of you attending camp this summer, Christensen has created a list of ten must-have items for your time in British Columbia. Check it out, below, and don’t forget your sunscreen (or your ski boots)!

Christensen’s Must-Haves for Summer Shred:

1. All of your ski gear: Let’s be honest, forgetting your ski boots at your home halfway across the country isn’t the most fun. It actually sucks.

2. A gigantic water bottle and your favorite Rockstar Energy Drink: Everyday on the glacier I make sure to bring my big 48 ounce water bottle and an organic Rockstar beverage. This makes for some good energy to wake you up on the way to the glacier and is a necessary source of hydration to keep you alive and shredding all day under the sun.

3. Sandals: By the end of a long day on the glacier your feet will be pretty sweaty and hot. You get to leave your ski boots about halfway up the mountain at night, so having a pair of sandals that fit easily in your pack is perfect.

4. Helmet: As I stated earlier, don’t forget your ski gear, especially your helmet. For campers (and staff) a helmet is required at all times on the glacier. You’ll definitely be learning some new tricks, so you need your helmet.

5. Sunscreen: Up on the glacier the sun is hitting you from almost every direction you can think of with a strong force. Get a big tube of sunscreen and bring it on hill everyday. I prefer to use a 30-50 SPF.

6. Extra gloves and goggles: If you’re hitting the airbag you can get pretty wet after a while. I always like to have an extra set of gloves and goggles with me to swap out.

7. Cash money: Every session all the coaches (including myself) have some extra gear that is for sale at some good prices. Anything from gloves and face masks to jackets and skis!

8. Bathing suit: Whether it’s an after ski activity or on your day off, you’re probably going to want your bathing suit. There are a bunch of lakes within walking distance of town and on a warm summer day the beach is a good place to scope the ladies (or guys). You’re just going to want it.

9. Skateboard: If you like to skate, Whistler has a rad skatepark and a bunch of spots to roll around with your friends. Maybe ollie over that girl you picked up at the beach.

10. Playing cards: After a couple days of skiing hard you might not want to leave your hotel room once you’re back. For me, playing cards with my roommates is a good social activity that allows you have a good time without having to stand up.
