Gear Review: Soleus GPS Cross Country watch tracks your stats in the mountains

Gear Review: Soleus GPS Cross Country watch tracks your stats in the mountains

As much as skiing is about experiencing the thrill of sliding down a sea of white on a pair of wooden planks, it’s also one of the greatest forms of exercise out there. Whether you’re laying the skin track in the backcountry, hiking for turns or just spinning hot laps at the resort, skiing is a great way to burn some calories and build some muscle. In a recent hike up to Herman Lake in Summit County, I was able to test out the features of the watch, and found out firsthand which features could come in handy come ski season.

After inputting height and weight of the user, the watch tracks the amount of calories burned during any and all adventures. An altimeter provides real time display of the user’s current elevation, great for observing positioning when bagging a peak in the backcountry. The watch’s compass feature ensures you’ll know which way your headed out there in the wilderness, and can certainly come in handy when weather inevitably rolls in.

In addition, the Soleus allows you to upload your data to Strava—a running and cycling GPS tracking app—to record your statistics over time and show your friends how much radder you get than they do (claim!).

MSRP: $199
