IF3 Wrap Up

IF3 Wrap Up

IF3 has come and gone but that doesn’t mean the lasting hangovers aren’t still in full effect. Day 2 of the Montreal based Freeskiing Film Festival was louder, crazier, and more fun than the first. Early morning however, the atmosphere was laid back as everyone was a little hung over from the K2 party the previous evening.
The show opened with some promising AM films including impressive showings by 4bi9, Tuckered Out Films, and the local crew from Montreal, Mystic Land Productions. The pros kept it going as Lynsey Dyer, Glen Plake, Simon Dumont, Sammy Carlson, and others held it down with autograph sessions between films.
Next up were the foreign films. Plake hopped on stage and introduced Stop Go Stop, a film by Peak Performance. All members in the audiences were treated to a free copy of the film compliments of Peak! After a strong showing from Ski Vision, out of France, it was onto the final five films of the day. They saved the best for last at IF3 with a five film lineup featuring Meatheads’ Wanderland, Rage’s Enjoy, Poor Boyz’ Yeah Dude!, TGR’s Lost and Found, and finally Tanner’s Believe. TGR provided a great moment with a Marc Andre Bellivieu ski seat segment. The crowd went wild during the segment as Marc was again dropping cliffs and ripping pow, everyone completely stoked to see Marc back on the hill.
So many good films this year, it’ll, be easy to max out your credit card buying ski movies. For a more comprehensive review, check Freeskier Magazine and the new Freeskier.com in the coming weeks for a full movie review (shameless plug).
After Tanner’s film, everyone made their way to the most anticipated event of the weekend, The Newschoolers Awards at Club Soda featuring Kid Koala. None other than Newschoolers.com President Doug Bishop and Oakley’s own Philou Poirier hosted the event and Club Soda was shakin’ it. The boys at Newschoolers.com provided a live broadcast that allowed members to post during the show. The comments were seen on a large projector screen on stage. As always, the NS.com community provided some very colorful commentary on the nights events. Look below for the full list of nominees and winners.
Once the awards were given out, Bishop was again on stage, decked out in a white tux, to introduce the man of the night, Kid Koala! The turntable genius rocked the house down. A camera conveniently focused on his turntables highlighted just how lightning fast this skilled DJ truly is. As the night went on, folks celebrated the first IF3 the way the ski industry does, by consuming mass amounts of alcoholic beverages and partying till the sun rose.
The first IF3 was a success mixing the greatest skiers in the world, live entertainment, free shwag (one grom was overheard calling the event IF Free after walking out with two backpacks full of gear!), and of course the world premieres from skiing’s best producers and directors. Special thanks are in order to Felix Rioux, JF Durocher, Phillipe Benjamin and Doug Bishop. These guys worked their tails off in order to bring this festival to life. Good work fellas! See you next year!
