In the historic streets of Park City and the once-again very snowy skies of Utah, the third annual Queen’s Cup Open got underway last evening with a first for the event, a nighttime rail jam. Skiers and snowboarders — another first for the event — slid, spun and occasionally tumbled on the four features set up on lower Main Street. Diggers were out all day setting up a flat-down-flat bar, a down-flat box over a trench, an urban-style single barrel and a steep down bar over stairs. The immense amounts of snow made it hard to carry enough speed but things eventually hardened up and girls were taking on each of the features in the jam-style event.
Virginie Faivre was on hand to judge and was possibly the hardest working digger of the day making sure all the landings were snow covered and the in runs maintained. Scotty “The Body” Connerlly was on the microphone starting dance parties and throwing out all kinds of Dakine gear and Skullcandy headphones to the crowd and participators. Marc Frank Montoya made a special guest appearance in his personal party bus and helped DJ the event under the Red Bull tent.
Queen’s Cup continues today with a slopestyle contest followed by a pipe competition on Sunday. We’ll see if the weather cooperates and the skies turn blue for the rest of the weekend. But either way, Park City is full of ladies this weekend ready to show off their stuff on the snow.
