Banana Man

Vancouver, Canada (s4i) April 23, 2010 – The people of Vancouver were delighted with a surprised on Thursday when the Banana Man started walking the streets of downtown. Banana Man was spotted on Robson, Stanley Park, and the transit system and evoked the envy of street performers amongst the crowd.

Banana man is the product of Snow4Innocents (s4i), a fundraiser to help Uganda’s only children’s hospital. Justin Long, a Vancouver resident and student, will ski Africa’s third largest mountain in a stunt to raise money for Holy Innocents Children’s Hospital Uganda. The Banana Man video was created to promote a new part of the fundraiser that allows the public to submit their own ideas. Justin will act out the top ideas submitted and voted by users of the site during his expedition.

The public is encouraged to submit crazy ideas to the (s4i) website. As of Friday, the top idea has been “dress like a giant banana”, followed by “yodel @ the summit”. Justin encourages the public to submit more ideas to raise awareness and make the charity more fun.

The ski descent will take place this June over a three-week time window. The ski descent is expected to be approximately 2,500 feet vertical, half of Whistler Mountain’s height. Justin will be reaching a summit of almost 4,800 metres (16,000 feet). Those interested will be able to follow Justin’s expedition through updates on the web and watch Justin act out ideas from the website.
