Need an escape? Check out this lodge, nestled within an Alaskan skiing Mecca

Haines, Alaska is one of the most legendary and mesmerizing ski destinations on Earth—hands-down. Sandwiched between the Chilkoot and Chilkat inlets on the state’s southeast sector, the place is packed to the brim with powder-covered peaks and ocean views that are absolutely life-changing.

Every winter, countless skiers flock to the area for world-class heliskiing experiences. And when they arrive, the Glacier View Lodge is one mighty fine place to be. Proudly owning the title of “The first boutique Alaska-style bed & breakfast lodge in Haines,” this place is decked out with three bedrooms (each with private bathrooms), a full kitchen and a great room for socializing, a.k.a. recounting every moment of your best ski days ever. Outside, the lodge has plenty of space, wrap-around decks and a prime location right on the water with close proximity to the mountains. Best of all, it’s just a stone’s throw away from well-known heliskiing operations—our friends at Southeast Alaska Backcountry Adventures (SEABA), for example—meaning once you arrive, there’s no hassle whatsoever.

If you’re sitting there and thinking, “Man, I’ve heard of Haines before…” it might be because this area is also home to one of the wildest skiing competitions out there: the Freeride World Tour. Every March, the best big-mountain skiers on Earth go to Haines and throw down hard. In other words, if you’re considering planning a trip, lining it up with this event (March 18-25, 2017) would be a very wise call. Experience the best turns of your life and watch top-name pros throw down in between? Sounds pretty darn amazing, if we don’t say so ourselves.

There’s more to Haines than just skiing, too; the recreational possibilities in the area are limitless. And whether you’re there to hike, bike, fish or simply sight-see, Glacier View Lodge remains the best place in town to stay.

In fact, Glacier View Lodge has a full-on charter fishing operation, I Fish Haines Haines Alaska, that keeps them real busy from May-October. Last season, their guests had a 90-percent catch rate, too, so you’re bound to reel in some tasty halibut, salmon and more.

All in all, Haines is one of the coolest places out there to vacation, all year round, and Glacier View Lodge is an amazing place to stay should you ever make it up there. Don’t settle for a mainstream vacation; do something different this time around and get up to Alaska already.
