This December, Atlanta’s SunTrust Park–home to the Atlanta Braves Major League baseball team–will play host to the Visa Big Air presented by Land Rover. The World Cup-sanctioned freeskiing event will take place on December 20 and 21 with the world’s best big-air athletes, including Alex Hall, Maggie Voisin and Nick Goepper, dropping into the stadium from a 15-story, snow-covered jump.
In an effort to bring more big air competitions to the masses, the US Ski & Snowboard Team has dedicated one big air event to a new city every season leading up to the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. While it may seem random to host a skiing competition in a state that hardly ever sees snow, the competitive spirit in Hotlanta is thriving thanks to its various professional sports teams and supportive fan bases. Along with the city’s strong sports culture, the 41,914-seat SunTrust Park also has the fastest WiFi service of any stadium in the country–ideal for real-time reporting within the venue for an insatiable freeski fan base.
Following in the footsteps of the incredibly successful 2016 Polartec Big Air at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts, this event is destined to turn Atlanta into a freeskiing mecca, if only for the weekend. With the event only a month away, we’ve collected all of the important information, below, to guide you as the Visa Big Air competition nears.
