Looking to close your ski season in style? Check out Vail this weekend for the annual Spring Back to Vail festivities running from April 13-19. The weeklong event kicked-off on Monday night and concludes on Sunday the 19th with an evening performance by O.A.R.
Festivities include the ever-entertaining World Pond Skimming Championships on Saturday, which are a sight to behold. The frigid-water madness goes down on Saturday at 2pm over at Gold Peak.
And if you’re not feeling the hunger to participate in the actual pond skimming, then kick back and cheer alongside the thousands of other fans. It’s a spectacle for sure. The pond-skimming event is open to skier and riders of all ages and abilities and the cost for competing is $35.
“Spring Back to Vail 2009 is going to be the biggest and baddest spring mountain bash ever,†said Natalie Fandrey of Highline Sports & Entertainment. “Vail is certainly showing ‘All the Love’ at this year’s Spring Back by providing an outstanding concert lineup and wide variety of on-mountain and in-town events for one great price – free!â€
New this year is the Breitling All-Mountain Film Competition in which teams of two (skier & filmer) spend four days on Vail mountain creating the best three-minute video segments they can in the limited time. Teams are competing for prizes including Breitling watches and 2009-10 Vail Epic Passes.
On Friday April 17th, Garfinkles Bar in Lionshead will host a film premier party starting at 8:30pm. Winners will be announced at Saturday’s Pond Skimming event, and videos will be shown on Saturday night at The Club in Vail village.
With entertainment every day this week, and concerts by the likes of Chris Isaak and O.A.R, Spring Back to Vail will provide the perfect atmosphere for your closing days of the season.
