Simon Dumont joins the Nike 6.0 team and Checks in From the Summer X Games

Mr. Dumont has been pretty busy lately, between traveling to CA for the X Games, training for next year, and signing with Nike 6.0.

Beaverton, OR, 2008 – Multiple X-Games golds, world-records, and a mind-blowing level of progression — Simon Dumont is notorious for constantly upping the level of his skiing and redefining the boundaries of the sport. Simon will be returning to the X-Games and Dew Tour for the 2008/ 2009 season, and filming the second half of his two-year documentary “Transitions.” A true leader and pioneer in the making, Nike 6.0 is stoked to welcome Simon to the team.

“Watching Simon break the world record for highest quarter pipe air this season made us realize that he’s willing to do whatever it takes to prove himself capable of anything. Simon has emerged as a true leader in the sport and there is really no telling what Simon will set his sights on next.” –Riley Poor, Freeski Mentor

Freeskier caught up with Simon for a moment and here is what he had to say:

FS: How good do you feel about signing with Nike 6.0 and being with Jossi and TJ and Sammy?
SD: Forget about Jossi and TJ [laughs]. Besides being on a team with my friends, think about Michael Jordan and all the athletes that are with Nike. It’s unbelievable what Nike can do for out sport, just look at what it has done for other action sports. They are a huge brand and I’m really excited to be working with them. Plus it’s pretty cool getting free shoes.

FS: I hear you were just at the Summer X Games, how was that?
SD: The Summer X Games are pretty cool. I’ve never been there before, so I decided to come down and check them out. It was really cool getting to see my other Target teammates compete like Kevin Robinson, Anthony Napolitan, and Shaun White. It was really cool actually.

FS: What are your plans for the rest of the summer and fall?
SD: Right now I’m just doing lots of cross training to try and stay healthy. I’m heading to New Zealand in a couple weeks to get some more training in. With the Dew Tour and everything coming up this season, I’ve got to get my head in the right place.

FS: What is going on with Empire these days?
SD: Right now, Empire is doing really well. We’re just focusing on getting our product together for next year. We’ll have four different models, including a mitten, a bunch of new hats, tees and new designs. I think that all the empire fans will have nice smiles on their faces when they see the stuff for next year.

FS:What else is going on?
SD: I want to tell people that we’re halfway done with making Transitions, a 2-year documentary about my life as a skier. It’ll be dropping next fall (2009), so just be on the lookout.
