Colorado will have three choices for skiers early next month with the recent announcement that Copper Mountain will open early, on November 7th. The resort traditionally has the best early season terrain, with a high speed quad – the American Eagle – serving one run out of the base, but a higher lift serving advanced and expert terrain. Of course, November is still a long way away, and there is the potential for Mother Nature to step in and help everyone out with a massive storm or two. Should that happen (keep your fingers crossed), then you can bet that Arapahoe Basin and Loveland will drop the ropes on additional terrain and that even the skiing off of Loveland Pass and Berthoud Pass could start to come on line.
Until then, of course, you can feed your skiing jones at the Basin or Loveland, both of which saw lighter crowds on opening day this week than they have in past opening days. Expect the weekdays to continue to be relatively empty, but pity the fool who shows up this weekend.
