“The Voice of Freeskiing,” Luke Van Valin to commentate 2014 Winter Olympics

“The Voice of Freeskiing,” Luke Van Valin to commentate 2014 Winter Olympics

For the past few months, the freeskiing world has been campaigning for Luke Van Valin, “The Voice of Freeskiing,” to be selected as the commentator for slopestyle and halfpipe skiing at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. Being that it is the first time our sport will be showcased on the grandest stage of them all, we felt that someone like Luke, a former athlete, and experienced broadcaster with as big of a slopestyle and halfpipe knowledge-base as you could have, should be the one introducing the sport to the world. Luckily, Luke has been given the mic, and will be commentating slopestyle and halfpipe from Sochi this February. Congratulations, Luke.

Here’s what Luke had to say, via his Instagram account, regarding the nomination:

“Olympics!!!! Here we come! I could not be more thankful for all of the amazing support I received in pursuing the NBCUniversal broadcasting position for Freeskiing in Sochi. We have quite a tale to tell, and I feel truly honored to be chosen to share it with the world. The vibrant family we are, the loss we’ve endured, and the beautiful lifestyle that’s born through the risk and reward of the freeskier’s pursuit. So let it be written. #Onward”
