CHRIS BENCHETLER—WITHOUT A DOUBT, ONE OF THE MOST RECOGNIZED NAMES IN THE SPORT. Whether you know him for stomping insane drops, creating beautiful artworks or for laying down glowing lines set to classic Dead tunes… you know his name. The Bent 120 and its previous iterations as the Bent Chetler became iconic pow skis over the past decade-plus. But when Benchetler isn’t riding blower pow, his go-to ski is now the Atomic Bent 110.
“If it’s a powder day, I’m always going to reach for the 120—but the Bent 110 has become my everyday ski, because it’s obviously not snowing every day,” Benchetler said. “It has an incredible swing weight and is just an awesome platform for hitting cliffs, jumps, really whatever, when you’re skiing two, three, four, five days after a storm. It just offers a little bit more maneuverability, it’s a little bit easier on the knees, a little bit easier to get on edge compared to the 120.”
The Atomic Bent 110 remains lightweight thanks to the beveled HRZN Tech tip and tail as well as its feathery poplar core. Its directional shape with rocker in the tip and tail and camber underfoot ensures stability through variable conditions and the Dura Cap sidewall provides excellent grip on hardpack, adding do-it-all prowess.
“I design every ski with a level of authenticity to what I need and what I want out of my skiing,” Benchetler said. “Since I’m based in Mammoth, I had the Eastern Sierra in mind for this ski. But the more I ski it and the more I get feedback on it, I think it works really well anywhere.” This winter, you can decide for yourself.
Earlier this year, Atomic also named Benchetler its Creative Director- At-Large, a nod to the pair’s nearly 20-year partnership. Over those two decades, Benchetler has always designed graphics for his skis but this season’s artwork took on a new form. He painted one canvas using different mediums and then it was segmented out to form the graphics for each ski in the Bent line.
“My art is an evolution just like anything in life—I keep experimenting, keep learning new techniques and keep trying to push myself as an artist. That’ll always shine through in the graphics,” Benchetler said. “I focused on painting a large piece that fit across the entire line. When you put all the skis together, there’s a cohesive look and feel—I think they really fit well as a family.”
The Bent 110 has been a long time in the making, and already it’s coveted by skiers from coast-to-coast. Benchetler’s powder boards have been bringing smiles to the faces of skiers for years, and the Bent 110 will surely bring that stoke to many more.
