The Cadabra was built with the help of Salomon team rider Mark Abma. Knowing what we do about Mark, we assumed the jacket would be coming in with some nice specs and it did. Salomon’s ClimaPro membrane rates at 20K/20K waterproof and breathable and the piece is fully seam taped to provide solid protection from the elements. In addition to the seams, all of the exterior zippers are taped – something we really like. Two of these zips are for the symmetrical chest pockets and two for lined, handwarmer pockets, one of which has an attached goggle wipe. The two asymmetrical flaps on the left side of the chest are mostly non-functional style elements (though one does take the place of a zipper garage) but don’t impede any function of the jacket or generally get in the way.

Inside the jacket are three pockets: two zippered (one audio) and a mesh goggle pocket. All the way around the collar is a comfortable plaid lining and around the waist is an interlocking powder skirt. While the lined hand pockets and plaid are comfortable, they do add a little bulk. The jacket weighs in at just over 3 pounds which is a little heavy for a technical, non-insulated shell. Nonetheless, the jacket that performs well and the price tag won’t scare people away like some other technical shells might.
