There comes a time in the season when your skis are begging for some love. After beating on them you can have your local tune shop take care of the problem for you or you can sack up and do some work yourself, not to mention save a few bucks in the process. A tuning kit such as this one from Dakine is simple and effective for any minor repairs that you need – namely sharpening and waxing your boards.

The one thing you’ll need in addition to this kit is an iron but those are easy to come by (if you can’t find a beat up old one in your parent’s closet then you can also get one from Dakine). The Deluxe Tune kit includes an edge tuning tool to easily deburr your edges and a 10″ file to sharpen them properly. The all-temperature wax can be smoothed out with the included scrapers and excess debris can be cleaned off with the scuff pad and wire brush. For sightly more serious gouges you can utilize the included Ptex. You can ride your skis all year long without tuning them but you’ll be much happier if you don’t.
