The new and improved Quadrant is the premier model in Black Diamond’s Alpine Touring Series and weighs in at 7lbs. 10 oz. Starting on the inside, you’ll find BD’s Efficient Fit AT liner which offers a few noteworthy features. The toe box is nice and roomy with a 103mm last and the liner tapers dramatically for great retention in the thickly padded, contoured heel pocket. The liner is thermoformable, flexes in on the back of the calf for improved touring performance and the tightens up nicely with the included BOA system.

The four-piece, overlapping shell has a flex rating of 120 and an impressive, 40-degree range of motion in the cuff for touring. The top two wire buckles can also be locked open for better range of motion while hooked dents prevent them from falling loose while you hike or skin. Black Diamond says they improved the power strap but it seems to be a pretty basic, non-elastic strap which makes the BOA system that much nicer.

When in ski mode, the forward lean can be set to one of three intervals between 14 and 22 degrees depending on your preference and the two lower buckles close opposite each other for a snug fit on the forefoot. A grippy, rubber sole provides great traction and runs the full length of the boot with a rockered front shape for better striding and grip.
