Stunning Aspen-based short film captures what skiing’s all about

Last week, we shared a short ski film from Iceland titled Flakes of Folklore that’s part of a film contest called REDirect Explore 2016.

This week, we’re back with another video from the the contest that’s going to give Flakes of Folklore (and all the other submissions) a run for its money. It’s titled The Process, and it comes from Aspen-based filmmaker Jesse Hoffman.

Process beautifully showcases the art of backcountry skiing, containing footage from the Elk Range outside of Aspen paired up with lovely narratives from local legends Bob Wade, Chris Davenport and Andy Popinchalk. Skiers included in the film are JoAnna Coffey (who also happens to be a FREESKIER ski tester), Chris Davenport, Garrett Greene, Patrick Doyle, Ryan Koster, Patrick Westfeldt, TJ David, Tyler Lindsay, Sam Coffey and Morgan Boyles.

“I go to the mountains to restore a feeling of peace. You get caught up in the daily mish-mash and, for me, I need something to re-center me,” narrates Wade, who owns the Ute Mountaineer shop in addition to his role as a climbing and ski mountaineering celebrity in Aspen. “It doesn’t matter to me where it is, as long as it’s some part of the natural world.”

To vote for Hoffman’s entry in the REDirect Explore 2016 contest, follow this link and click the thumbs up underneath the video.
