A new backcountry device that you’ll want in your pack next season

Thanks to the folks at goTenna, there’s a new backcountry device in town. The communication tool pairs with iPhone or Android devices via bluetoothLE and enables users to send and receive text messages (160 characters or less) and share GPS locations, all without utilizing cell reception. Depending on interference from terrain, the small device allows for users to communicate up to 50 miles apart and provides a “shout” message that will send to all users within range in an emergency. The goTenna product is re-chargeable via a USB cable, weather resistant and easily attachable to other gear. The kicker? You get two of these bad boys for the small price of $150. At such a small cost, the goTenna is incredibly affordable, compact and crucial in case of an emergency situation. For more info, visit gotenna.com
