Triple Air Open scheduled for 3/18-3/20

Alpine Meadows presents 2nd Annual Take the Lake Triple Air Open

Big jumps, $15,000 purse, & big competition is back by popular demand

Lake Tahoe, CA – Alpine Meadows Ski Resort has sounded the competition alarm by announcing the A.M. Open Jumpline Competition, taking place Friday, March 18 through Sunday, March 20. Top ski and snowboard competitors can expect a triple jumpline judged by some of the industry’s most sought-after judges. A $15,000 purse is on the line; and the top finishers of both the ski and snowboard divisions will walk with the winnings.

Contest venue crafted by jump-building legend
Alpine Meadows park designer Jonahs David is known for pushing together jumps made for pure launching – and Take the Lake Triple Air Open will bring out his best work. “The caliber of the competitor field demands perfect features,” said David. “There’s a lot of fun in building big jumps, and there’s definitely a select group of athletes who know how to execute perfect airs during this competition. Competitors will definitely be stoked with the second annual Take the Lake,” he added.

Inaugural-competition winners set the bar high
2010 Take the Lake winners set a high standard for all skiers and snowboarders who apply for the 2011 Take the Lake: in the snowboard division, Danny Toumarkine of Conway, New Hampshire grabbed the gold with a Back 9, Switch Back 9, and a huge Front 10; and Reno, Nevada’s Matt Nelson took the top spot with a Rodeo 5 Liu Kang; Switch 7; and a Switch Dub Ro 9 in the ski division. “The level of competition during the inaugural event was very high, and we’re predicting to see more athletes enter the 2nd Annual Take the Lake for a shot at the title as well as the cash,” David said.

X Games and Dew Tour veterans line the judging panel
Some of action sports’ most in-demand pro judges will give the nod to top competitors. Among them include Dew Tour and Winter X Game veteran judges Shawn Carney and Tom Zikas; and former Winter X Games skiers Evan Raps and Mike LaRoche. Carney and Zikas have traveled the globe in search of the perfect air or cab 900; and Raps and LaRoche know what it takes to pull off a flawless switch nosegrab 1080. Those with the right mix of trick execution, amplitude, fluidity, and difficulty will qualify for the Saturday championship rounds for a shot at the cash and the podium.

Competition registration details
Registration fee is $100 and includes the Friday, March 18 practice day; the Saturday, March 19 qualifying rounds; and for those who qualify, the Sunday, March 20 finals.
