RIP Toby the Bernese Mountain Dog, the unofficial mascot of Loveland Ski Area

The life of a well-loved dog is surely one of the best on the planet. Such was the life of Toby, a Bernese Mountain Dog who was the unofficial mascot of Loveland Ski Area, an un-waivering Denver Broncos fan (he met Von Miller and together they’re shipped #VonToby), a volunteer at the Rocky Mountain Easter Seals camp helping children with disabilities and a friend to many. We’re heartbroken to announce that Toby passed away suddenly this week; Toby lived a short but full five years on Earth.

His owner, Dustin Schaefer—the Group Sales & New Media Manager at Loveland Ski Area—remembered Toby on Facebook, saying, “it’s amazing how many people Toby reached and touched during the three years I had him. It feels like we did ten years of adventures in that short amount of time. Thank you for the love and support during this tough time.”

Toby’s life was filled with snow at the resort he loved so much, frequent appearances on the local news (you can see some clips, below), attending sports games to root on the Broncos and Colorado Rockies and getting lots and lots of pets. He made friends, warmed hearts and gave big-dog hugs wherever he went, and will be greatly missed by not only his loving owner, but by the Denver Broncos, Loveland Ski Area, us here at FREESKIER and his many fans.

Rest in peace, Toby. You were a very good boy.
