This past weekend Sunday River started its pre-season snowmaking test, firing off 40 Boyne Low-Energy Fan Guns across the slopes located near the South Ridge Base Lodge. Yesterday, the resort used another 40 tower guns for a test that took place on the highest elevation points of Locke Mountain.

This weekend’s snowmaking test falls during resort’s annual Fall Festival Weekend and serves as a reminder to guests that winter is approaching. This timely display also serves to remind skiers and riders of the resort’s pre-season pass sale deadline taking place Monday, October 11, 2010.

Sunday River’s opening day for the 2010/2011 season is weather dependant and slated at this time for mid-November.

As you can see from the attached pictures and video link below, Copperopolis trail, the main early season race training venue at Copper, is primed and ready to go for all the race teams and groups that have traditionally come to Copper for early season race training. Don’t worry – only 2 short weeks until everybody can shred Copper Mountain.

Mother Nature is cooperating and the conditions were superb for Copper to start making snow this past weekend. Oh yeah, and we wouldn’t have to make snow if you didn’t keep melting it with your good looks. There is no better time than right now to start thinking about skiing and snowboarding again for the winter and Copper is making it easier than ever to help you enjoy a Snow Day! www.coppercolorado.com

For the second season in a row, Loveland Ski Area is the first ski area to open in Colorado. Chair 1 will turn for the first time of the new season tomorrow, Sunday, October 24th at 9:00am.

“We had to wait out some warm weather which delayed Opening Day a little bit this year,” said Rob Goodell, Director of Business Operations. “But the good news is we will be skiing tomorrow on some really good snow. Our snowmaking team did a great job battling the warm weather and once again we are very proud to offer the first turns of the season.”
