For the third year in a row, Sunday River is the first east coast resort to open for the season. With lower than normal temperatures in the forecast Sunday River’s veteran team of snowmakers fired up one of the most powerful snowmaking systems on the planet and laid down edge to edge snow on the resort’s T2 trail perched atop Locke Mountain.

“Cold temperatures and advanced snowmaking technologies including tower guns and fan guns helped us open,” said Dana Bullen, Sunday River General Manager. “Opening ahead of the pack is a great treat to offer skiers and riders across New England and we’re proud to be able to stake this claim for a third year in a row.”

Opening a full 13 days before the resort’s previous early season record is a fantastic way to celebrate their 50th season. For those east coasters looking to get your early season shred on, lift access will begin at 9:00 AM tomorrow and remain open through this Sunday. Lift tickets will be $25 and can be procured at the Barker Mountain Base Lodge.

With cold temperatures in the forecast snowmakers will continue to make snow and attempt to expand to additional terrain on Locke Mountain. For the time being, lift access will be provided via the Locke Mountain Triple with downloading to the base.
