Slide Marketing announces US Open of Freeskiing event for 2014

Press Release, Los Angeles, CA, from Slide Marketing, LLC:

Slide Marketing, LLC is pleased to announce a new freeskiing event for 2014, the US Open of Freeskiing (USOF). “This event will be a truly open event with up to 500 athletes in slopestyle, halfpipe and big air disciplines,” said competition director Dan Skivington.

The US Open Freeskiing will be held in March 4th – 9th, 2014 and will be the world’s largest open event for men and women freeskiers. “The USOF will be a place where all riders can come to enjoy the ‘free’ in freeskiing, the ‘stee’ in steez,” said Skivington.

With most major events now invitational, a true open event is needed more than ever in freesking. The USOF will give opportunity to all riders from the top ranked to the emerging stars to compete together at one time. The US Open will provide a core, relaxing event for veterans and a place where aspiring riders can learn to compete and be discovered.

At the USOF, competitors can ride in a low stress, fun environment with plenty of practice time, jam qualifying formats and larger fields into the semifinals and finals. Every rider will not only feel the event gave them the most chance to shine, but the most fun of the year. This is a new vision for a true open that is “inclusive and not exclusive,” said Craig Elledge, President of Slide, LLC.

The on-hill experience for athletes will feature hang out areas for athletes and friends and families, with lunch provided for all competitors and parties at night. A festival atmosphere on-site will also set this event apart with heavy endemic involvement creating an interactive USOF nation village.

Skivington checks in with athletes and industry folk at Dew Tour re: USOF

Skivington and Elledge have over 50 years of winter event production experience and are the current freeski competition directors for the Winter Dew Tour. Elledge was the promoter of the first professional snowboard and freeski tours in the US, the American Snowboard Tour (AST) from 1991 to 2003 and American Freeski Tour (AFT) from 2003 to 2008, including the North American Open. The AST started many top snowboarders including Ross Powers, Shaun White and Gretchen Blieler, and the AFT started freeskiers such as Sammy Carlson, Bobby Brown, Peter Olenick and Andreas Håtveit. Skivington has served as a USSA Junior Olympic alpine race coach and the competition director for the American Freeski Tour, Noth American Open, Aspen Open, Dumont Cup, Icer Air, War of Rails and the Dew Tour and is among the most respected freeski competition directors in the industry.

This US Open of Freeskiing is not a reincarnation of a previous event.

Resorts interested in hosting the US Open of Freeskiing will be able to fill out an online RFP at www.usopenfreeski.com beginning February 28, 2013. Slide, LLC, is an event marketing, production and activation company and serves as the agency of record for Paul Mitchell Sports Marketing.
