The Copper Mountain season gets underway

Sunny skies. High-speed lifts. Ten boxes, rails and jibs. Two mini jumps. Snow. Friends. Beers.

All ingredients that Copper Mountain stirred up for opening day yesterday.

The resort home to Woodward opened it’s gates with a 20-inch base. The American Eagle was running and the Excelerator is set to open later today. The Eagle Jib park was set up under the Eagle and provided an easy section to skiers left with a flat box, a flat down box, a flat bar, flat down bar and flat rail. To skiers right was an up-flat-down box and a long flat box. From there, you could move into the rhythm section where there were wooden jib features and box features set up on the sides of two little lip jumps.

For those hiking the park, jacket off was definitely the attire fo teh day. It was near 50 degrees and sunny and the forecast for the rest of the weekend is showing more of the same. The only cure for a sunburn that could only occur on an opening day with a temperature like that and the inability to get off the snow due to stoke is a cold one down at Endos or Incline.

The night rounded out with the first apres party of the season at Jack’s bar wit ha chance to win a pair of Liberty Skis and the Lift Off Movie Tour where multiple shred flicks were shown and will be shown tonight and Sunday as well. The first night of Copper’s Lift Off Concert series is tonight and will be featuring Lyrics Born and MURS.
