Breckenridge’s new Peak 6 terrain to open on Christmas Day

Santa has arrived in Breckenridge, Colorado. Breckenridge Resort’s brand new Peak 6 terrain, a 543-acre expansion to the resort, will open on Christmas Day, December 25, 2013. Starting at 12 p.m. MST, Breckenridge guests can head over to the Zendo and Kensho chairs and access the above treeline terrain of Peak 6, terrain reserved for intermediate and expert skiers.

Press Release, Breckenridge, Colorado, December 20, 2013:

Vail Resorts, Inc. and Breckenridge Ski Resort announced today that the resort’s brand new Peak 6 expanded terrain and lifts will open for the first time ever to the public at noon on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2013. The opening of Peak 6 represents one of the biggest and most notable ski area terrain expansions in North America in the past decade, and will be the first at Breck since the Peak 7 expansion in 2002.

The inaugural season of the Peak 6 expansion will be an important landmark year in Breck’s history, and guests who visit Breck on Dec. 25 will be able to ride the resort’s two brand new chairlifts, the Zendo Chair and Kensho SuperChair, which will both start operations for the first time that day at approximately 12:00 p.m. MST.

Once guests arrive at Peak 6 via the new lifts, they will have access to the above-tree line intermediate and expert terrain that the new expansion will become famous for, enabling guests to “Awaken Their Sixth Sense” on the runs that were recently named via the resort’s crowd sourcing contest.

Lifts, trails and terrain for opening day on Peak 6 will be dependent upon weather conditions and snow coverage; guests can stay tuned to Breck’s social media outlets at www.Facebook.com/Breckenridge or follow the new @BreckConditions Twitter account for the most current terrain status updates.

“We couldn’t be more excited about being able to open Peak 6 on Christmas Day,” said Pat Campbell, SVP & COO of Breckenridge Ski Resort. “This project has been years in the making, and thanks to the incredible efforts of the entire project team, we are poised to be able to open Peak 6 on schedule, and deliver the holiday gift of a lifetime to our guests from around the world.”

A detailed behind the scenes look at the final stages of Breck’s operational completion of the Peak 6 project can be found in the resort’s latest episode of their “Inside the Creation of Peak 6” video series presented by GoPro, titled “The Finishing Touches,” online at www.YouTube.com/Breckenridge.
