ASPEN/SNOWMASS SPRING 2011 EVENT SCHEDULE

Bud Light Spring Jam Kicks Off This Weekend, March 18-20 and Continues March 25-27
Plenty of Spring Deals to Take Advantage Of in Aspen/Snowmass

Aspen/Snowmass, Colo., March 15, 2011 – Aspen/Snowmass packs a punch this spring with nearly 20 events still remaining and plenty of opportunities to save on lodging and lift ticket packages for the rest of the 2010-2011 season.

The 11th Annual Spring Jam kicks off this weekend, March 18-20 and continues March 25-27. This event features three FREE outdoor concerts plus on-mountain competitions and parties in Aspen/Snowmass.

New this season, Buttermilk is proud to welcome Red Bull’s Buttercup on Sunday, April 3 – Buttermilk’s closing day. Schneetag, previously held in Snowmass during Spring Jam, has now moved to AspenMountain on April 10 for AspenMountain’s closing day festivities.

Spring Deals: Now’s the time to save big on a spring vacation to Aspen/Snowmass. St. Paddy’s Day Celebration in Snowmass – March 17**
The biggest Blarney Bash in the mountains kicks off with the Lucky Leprechaun Scavenger Hunt including pot-o-gold prizes for kids and adults. Emerald Isle festivities continue all day with green beer and Irish fare, kids’ activities, free concerts, giveaways, Celtic dancers and bagpipe marches.

Bud Light Big Air Friday Series, Ongoing, February-April 2011
The always entertaining Friday afternoon show is entering its 9th year at Snowmass. Big Air Fridays attracts competitors from near and far (including the occasional vacationer) to show off what they’ve been practicing all week. Athletes will showcase the newest and most progressive tricks off of the 40 foot jump on upper Fanny Hill. Don’t miss the new Little Air competition, inviting kids to come out and compete for giveaways on a mini-jump just before Big Air Fridays. Remaining dates: March 18 and 25; April 1.

11th Annual Bud Light Spring Jam – March 18-20 and March 25-27
The 11th annual Bud Light Spring Jam, the premier spring festival in the Rocky Mountains, will bring two weekends of competitions, downtown concerts and parties to Aspen/Snowmass. The following events from March 18 – March 27, 2011 are all part of Spring Jam.

Broken Social Scene – March 18, 8 p.m., Downtown Aspen – Corner of
Cooper Avenue & Galena Street

Broken Social Scene will bring their indie rock sounds to downtown Aspen on Friday, March 18 for Core Party, kicking off the 11thAnnual Bud Light SpringJam. The Canadian group’s latest album Forgiveness Rock Record has been nominated for Alternative Artist of the Year and Alternative Album of the Year for this year’s Juno Awards. Local DJ, DJ Naka G, will open up for Broken Social Scene, warming up the crowd for one of Aspen’s biggest outdoor concerts of the season.

Terrain Park Boot Camp – Saturday & Sunday – March 19 & 20, 26 & 27 – 12-3 p.m.
The Terrain Park Book Camp is an entry level terrain park that will be set up on Fanny Hill at Snowmass. Aspen/Snowmass athletes and other spotlight riders will coach beginners (13 and up) how to safely slide a rail, hit a box and throw a trick. From children to parents, this is open to anyone interested in learning the ropes of the terrain park.

12th Annual KickAspen Big Air Invitational at AspenMountain – March 19, 8 p.m.
In the 12th Annual KickAspen Big Air, the best regional ski and snowboard athletes will compete under the lights at the base of AspenMountain. Prize giveaways, a beer garden and a DJ will round out the action at the base of the mountain.

Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk – March 20, 4 p.m., SnowmassBaseVillage
Ivan Neville will be bringing the funk to Snowmass all the way from New Orleans for the fourth Bud Light Hi-Fi Concert Series of the season. Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk is a group of musicologists that transcend age and styles in a free-flowing approach to their art. Dumpstaphunk weaves a vocal and musical tapestry from key members of Dave Matthews & Friends, Trey Anastasio, Jewel and the Neville musical families.

PEPPER – March 25, 8 p.m., Base of AspenMountain
PEPPER, comprised of guitarist/vocalist Kaleo Wassman, bassist/vocalist Bret Bollinger and drummer Yesod Williams, will be closing out this year’s Bud Light Hi-Fi Concert Series on March 25 at the base of AspenMountain. Formed in Kailua-Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii in 1997, PEPPER, is known to mix their rock “shock and ah” flare, along with their mellow island rhythm roots to create their own truly diverse sound.

Fallen Friends Memorial Event at Aspen Highlands – March 26, 12 p.m.
The 3rd annual Fallen Friends memorial event will gather teams of two to five to compete in a course of jumps, bumps and park features on Scarlett’s Run at Aspen Highlands. The event will feature a DJ, announcers and food and drink specials on the deck of the Merry-Go-Round. Teams are encouraged to dress in a costume and incorporate a common theme. All the proceeds from the event will benefit an Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club (AVSC) scholarship fund in honor of local fallen friends over the past few years. Registration will be available at the base of Highlands from 9:30 – 11 a.m. on the day of the event.

Helly Hansen Battle in the Bowls at Aspen Highlands – March 27, 2011, 10 a.m.
Helly Hansen Battle in the Bowls will be back for the fourth year and features teams of two racing against each other to ski/ride the many bowls of Aspen Highlands as fast as they can. On a course designed by Aspen/Snowmass athlete Chris Davenport, the teams can take any route they desire as long as they complete every run listed on the course. Flaik GPS devices will track the athletes as they charge across the mountain. Each team’s final time is a collective average of its members’ times. Last year’s winning team finished the course in 3 hours and 4 minutes. Registration is still open, visit www.aspensnowmass.com/battle to register.

NEW EVENT: Red Bull Buttercup at Buttermilk – April 3, 2011, 1 p.m.
The first ever Red Bull Buttercup Rail Jam will be held at Buttermilk on Closing Day. This snowboard jam contest invites riders of all levels to come show off their most creative skills on a custom butter park. Only trick sequences that feature buttering will count and riders will be judged on style and creativity. Registration is only $20 and will take place on the day of the event. Schneetag on AspenMountain – April 10, 2011 – NEW DATE & LOCATION – 1 p.m.
This hilarious event is one not to miss. The 4th annual Schneetag event (pronounced Sch-knee Tog) invites teams of four to create a craft that they will pilot down a slope by Bonnie’s restaurant on AspenMountain and attempt to float across a 40×20 foot pond. Every team has a theme and will perform a skit before they descend. This event is just as ridiculous and entertaining as it sounds. Last year prizes included a trip to the ESPN X Summer Games in Los Angeles, tickets to a professional sporting event in Denver and skis and snowboards. Stay tuned for this year’s prizes.
