Set for March 3 – 5, the 2011 Salomon Extreme Freeride Championships at Taos has been named one of the showcase events for the Freeride World Tour (FWT) women, who will compete in New Mexico to earn a spot at the FWT’s legendary finals hosted in Verbier, Switzerland. In addition, the Salomon Extreme Freeride Championships at Taos is a 4* Freeride World Tour Qualifying event (FWQ), making it one of a handful of elite FWQ events in the world.
“We are excited to host the best women freeskiers in the world as they battle for the FWT overall title,” says Taos’ Alejandro Blake. “We are proud that the FWT has recognized that Taos offers both the terrain and level of professional organization to host a the top FWT women and It is a fantastic reward for all of our event staff to see Taos named both a top-tier FWQ qualifying event as well as a key stop for the ladies.”
The Salomon Extreme Freeride Championships at Taos is New Mexico’s largest and most prestigious ski and snowboard competition. Featuring athletes from around the world, 2011 marks the 7th installment of this venerable competition.
“I can’t wait to see all the athletes return to Taos,” adds Chief of Race Tom Winter. “Last year we hosted one of the most competitive freeride events in North America and our new status as a 4* event and FWT top-tier women’s competition means that we’ll see some of the best skiers in the world descend on Taos. It promises to be quite a show.”
“Not only will the level of competition be extremely high,” adds Blake, “but we expect to sell out all the spots available to athletes soon. If someone is thinking of competing in the 2011 edition of this event, they need to register now.”
