POC Receptor Bug Tanner Hall Ed.

MSRP: $140

From the Editors of Freeskier:

POC designs and produces some of the most advanced safety gear on the market and this helmet is a great example. There are two primary types of helmet designs available today: In-mold, which shines with lower-force impacts and ABS which is best at high-speed impacts. The Receptor Bug has overlapping shells that combine both of these to keep your noggin safe – ABS on the outside with in-mold underneath.

These double overlapping shells also allow an adjustable ventilation system that doesn’t expose your head to sharp objects, keeping you warm, or cool, and safe. The Tanner Hall edition obviously incorporates the rasta color scheme that his name is somewhat synonymous with but POC does a good job of keeping it subtle for those not on the verge of moving to Jamaica. Audiophiles will appreciate that it’s also compatible with POC’s Neck Roll which includes Beats by Dre headphones, remote and mic. A solid helmet with a laid back style.

The Pros: Great construction, good look
The Cons: Audio earpads sold separately
