Revered for its down sleeping bags and sleeping pads, Big Agnes (BA) has taken its camping equipment know-how and parlayed that well into its ski jackets. A favorite among BA fans and our editors, too, the Shovelhead jacket hit shelves this fall with new construction and fabrics: The mid-weight hooded down jacket boasts 700-fill, water-repellant DownTek down; vertical baffles with internal gates to keep the down from shifting and a shell that’s wind and water resistant as well as durable to withstand wear and tear. Furthermore, a contoured fit (vertical baffles follow the patterns of the human body quite well) allows for freedom of movement. Being relatively low-volume without making any sacrifices in the warmth department, the Shovelhead is recommended as an insulating layer. Additional features include an adjustable drawcord hood closure; textured YKK Vislon zippers with pull strings (great for gloves); an adjustable drawcord at the hem; interior mesh pockets for extra stash space and thumb holes for easy layering.
